Frequently asked questions

What Omnibus does, how the 30-day reference is calculated, and what it never touches.

Getting started

What does Omnibus do?

Omnibus makes your store comply with the EU Price Indication Directive (Art. 6a): whenever you announce a price reduction, the storefront must show the lowest price you actually applied in the previous 30 days, and the discount must be calculated from that reference. Omnibus records your price history automatically and displays that “lowest 30-day price” on every reduced product via a theme block.

How do I set it up?

Install from the Shopify App Store and open the app — Omnibus immediately backfills your current prices and starts tracking every change. Then add the “Omnibus 30-day price” block to your product template in the theme editor (one time). There are no scripts to paste, and the block hides itself on products that aren’t currently reduced.

Do I need 30 days of history before it works?

No. Omnibus starts tracking the moment you install and records every price change from then on. Until a product has a full 30 days of history, we display the reference honestly (with a “tracked since” note) rather than overstate it. From day 30 onward it shows the clean statutory reference.

How it works

How is the reference price calculated?

It is the lowest price you actually applied during the 30 days before the reduction. If you ran several successive discounts, the reference is the lowest of the real prices in that window — not the highest “list” price. The percentage off is computed from that reference, exactly as the EU Court of Justice ruled in the Aldi Süd case (C-330/23).

Does Omnibus use AI?

No. The computation is deterministic arithmetic over your own price history — the same prices always produce the same, auditable reference. You can export the full price-history ledger to see exactly why each reference was shown.

Does it read my orders or customers' data?

No. Omnibus reads product and variant PRICES only (read_products). It never reads orders or any customer information — no names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, or payment details — and does not request read_orders or read_customers. It holds no protected customer data at all.

Will it change my products or prices?

No. Omnibus writes only its own product metafield (omnibus.references) holding the computed reference, which the theme block reads. It never edits your product content, price, or inventory.

What if your backend goes down?

The label keeps showing. The reference is stored in a Shopify product metafield your theme reads directly, so the storefront label renders even if our servers are unavailable — a common failure point for other compliance apps that inject the label live.

Billing & plans

What's free and what's paid?

The core compliance label — the “lowest 30-day price” on your whole catalog, in every currency, with the discount computed from the reference — is free forever. Paid plans add country-exact statutory wording (Essential) and the regulator evidence export plus extended audit retention (Growth).

Can I upgrade, downgrade or cancel?

Yes — change or cancel anytime from the Plan screen. Billing is handled by Shopify and appears on your regular Shopify invoice. Downgrading never turns off the compliance label; you only lose the paid convenience features.

Will I be charged while testing on a development store?

No. Shopify does not bill development stores, so you can install and try Omnibus on a dev store at no cost.

Data & privacy

What data does Omnibus store?

Only price points (the price-history ledger), the computed references, your shop domain and currency, app settings, and billing status — plus Shopify access tokens in the app's session storage. It stores no customer-identifiable data.

Is Omnibus GDPR-compliant?

Yes. It honours Shopify's mandatory GDPR compliance webhooks. Because it holds no customer personal data, the customer data-request and redaction webhooks have nothing to return or erase; a shop-redaction request deletes all of your shop's data.

What happens when I uninstall?

Your access token is removed and the shop is marked inactive on uninstall; on Shopify's shop-redaction webhook all of your shop's rows are deleted. Uninstalling does not change your products; any omnibus.references metafields simply stop being updated.
